Kaamulan Festival in Bukidnon

I’m a bit late for this week’s Tuesday Travels but I don’t wanna miss it so here’s my Octoberfest entry. Our hometown visit as we witnessed the Kaamulan Festival 2011 which was held last March at my birthplace in Malaybalay City, Bukidnon.

I really miss watching this kind of festival here in our hometown. I miss my grandmother who used to be one of the active dancer and participant of the street dancing competition which is the highlight of the festival.

We call it Kaamulan from the Binukid word amul which means to gather. It is a gathering of Bukidnon tribal people for a purpose. It means a datuship ritual, a wedding ceremony, a thanksgiving festival during harvest time, a peace pact, or all of these put together.

Showcasing the unique indigenous culture of Bukidnon, Kaamulan is held annually in the province of Bukidnon, particularly in my beloved hometown in Malaybalay City. It is usually held every 1st week of the month of March.

Kaamulan has become an avenue for the recognition and appreciation of Bukidnon’s unraveled cultural legacy carefully preserved by the traditional population.

Me, My Mom and my daughter :)

Kaamulan is indeed an interesting ground for the unification of the people of Bukidnon. The one that converges the past and the present, celebrates its rich culture and inspires its people.

Tuesday Travels: The Zurich Street Parade

I don’t want to miss Tuesday Travels so here’s my entry for this week for our month theme Octoberfest where we feature festivals that we would love to go to.

One of the festivals that I would to love to see is the Zurich Street Parade in Zurich, Switzerland. My mom who is recently working and residing in Zurich never misses any of this event.

I really enjoyed looking at their sexy looking outfit and costumes. The Zurich Street Parade is an awesome European trance and techno festival which usually takes place every second weekend in August in the city of Zurich in Switzerland.

Tourists from all over the world come to experience this colorful event as it is regarded as one of the safe mass events in Zurich. The Street Parade is as of 2001 one of the largest techno parties in the world and the largest annual event in Zurich where a parade of  floats on the back of an 18-wheeler semi trucks, each carrying a DJ and a dance party on its bed, crawls through the million people along the parade route and people will get dressed up in crazy outfits and everyone dances with each float as it passes by.

Villagracia Beach

Villagracia beach is one of my favorite beach here in Cagayan de Oro City. It is located in Bonbon and its not quite far from our place. We usually spend our family bonding here and also if we have a beach outing and activities together with our fellow church members.

I really love this beach. Its clean, not too crowded and the scenic and panoramic view is simply beautiful and so relaxing to look at.

It’s so cheap and affordable too! The beach cottages only ranges from P100 to P350. It is open 24 hours. They also have lodging and function hall.

If you love beaches, then you will surely enjoy this one too!

Every time my mom spends her holiday here in the Philippines, she always stay at Balan compound, a beach apartment located in Opol, Misamis Oriental.

Tuesday Travels (Local Food) Swiss Fondue Chinoise

This whole month of August theme for Tuesday Travels will feature some travel photos of food. So here’s my entry for this week. A special dish from Switzerland where my mom is currently working and living with. And since this blog also features different cultures and traditions from other country, this Swiss Specialty called the Swiss Fondue Chinoise is one of the best examples that I would like to share to all of you.

Fondue comes from the French verb which means melting. This is right for cheese fondues or chocolate Fondues, where you melt something to get a creamy mass into which you can dip things on a long fork.

a Swiss Fondue Chinoise is a thinly sliced, rolled beef (or other meat) cooked in broth

with different sauces cocktail sauce, garlic sauce, mexican sauce etc.

Fun Fact: Did you know that I was asking and begging my mom to cook some of their food specialty so I can post some photos here in my blog? ^_^

Thanks to my ever supportive mom because she agreed on it and she decided to prepare it for their dinner together with my younger sister. It’s just too bad that I can’t taste and eat it. Grrrr… but anyway, I hope next time I get the chance to eat this yummy and sumptuous dish.

Tuesday Travels: Our Favorite Beach

This week’s theme for Tuesday Travels is all about our favorite beach destination so here’s my entry for this week. I am featuring our very own local beach in Opol, Misamis Oriental.

Everytime my mom spends her holiday here with us every year, she usually rent an apartment near the beach in Balan Compound, Opol. She loves swimming at the beach every morning. I only swim in the morning or late afternoon because I don’t want to get dark LOL!

Opol is a nearby municipality of Misamis Oriental and from city proper of Cagayan de Oro, it is 30-45 minutes away.

My Favorite Hangout Place

This week’s Tuesday Travel theme will feature our favorite hangout place so here’s mine! Who doesn’t love to hangout at the mall? I’m sure we do right? ^_^

My daughter and I’s favorite hangout is at Limketkai Mall’s kiddie fun rides

We go directly to this place everytime we go out shopping to this mall

My daughter really loves to ride on these fun rides while I also enjoy eating some chips and sipping some cold refreshing drinks. ^_^

The City Where I Live

This week’s featured theme from Tuesday Travels is your Town/City (where you live now)

Welcome to Cagayan de Oro City! and yes its my city where I’m presently residing right now. It is popularly known as the City of Golden Friendship and it is the gateway to Northern Mindanao.

There are so many things for you to do when you’re here in  Cagayan de Oro. From fun time frolicking in the beaches, to sports adventures and street parties, you can definitely experience it in this city. Cagayan de Oro is very well known as the White Water Rafting capital of the Philippines too.

You can also try zorbing and have some fun splashing on zipline across the pool!

Whether its for business or leisure, there is something for you to enjoy here in CDO!

Tuesday Travels: My Dream Destination
