5 Tips to Discourage Intruders while you’re Away on Holidays

 photo IMG_3873_zps926c1349.jpg

There’s nothing better than taking a vacation to relax and forget about the pressure and stress of everyday life. However, you must make sure that your home is properly protected while you are away. Burglars are always on the lookout for signs that a house is unoccupied. Doing some simple tasks can prevent you from becoming just another burglary statistic. Let’s take a look five ways to safeguard your home while you are away on holiday:

1. Notify police

You should make a call to your local police department and inform them of your holiday plans. This will allow them to include your home to their holiday watch list. Once the police know you won’t be home for a given period of time, they will drive by your home more frequently than they normally would to look for suspicious activity. Make sure you give the police your contact information so they can reach you if something does happen at your home.

2. Collect your mail

Nothing tells a potential burglar that the occupants of a house are on holiday more than a stack of mail lying at the door. A bulging mailbox is another telltale sign. Simply arrange for a neighbour or other trusted friend to pick up your mail every day while you are away. Another good idea would be to have somebody you know park their car in your driveway for the entire length of your holiday. Thieves are less likely to try to break into a house with a car in the driveway.

3. Improve your lighting

For obvious reasons, burglars tend to avoid areas with bright lights. By improving the exterior lighting of your home, you can ensure that those nasty burglars will just pass your house by in hopes of finding an easier target. Your exterior lighting should be placed on timers. This will allow them to turn on at night when they are needed. You should also consider adding lights that turn on when there is motion in the area. Criminals really hate that sort of thing.

4. Plan your maintenance

Schedule all of the outdoor chores that will need to be taken care of while you are gone. Make sure your lawn is cut on a regular basis. You will also need to have it watered. Neglecting these tasks could give away your absence to a potential burglar. If you are hiring a company or a neighbour to take care of your lawn while you are away, it would be a good idea to call them on a regular basis to confirm that the work they were supposed to do has been completed.

5. Trim your trees

All of the work in your yard should be completed before you leave on your holiday. You will need to pay special attention to any shrubs or trees that are close to doors and windows. If they are neglected and allowed to grow over your doors and windows, a burglar will instantly know that the house is an easy target. Trim them back far enough so this will not happen.

These 5 tips in addition to basic precautions, such as window security screens, will ensure that you can enjoy your travels without having to worry about the security of your home.

First time cruising can be both an exhilarating and nerve racking experience. Whether you are planning on taking on a world trip or simply want to taste the cruise lifestyle with short weekend getaway, be sure to follow these simple tips for an unforgettable holiday experience.

Prepare yourself

Preparing for your cruise, particularly when it is your first time aboard, is an integral part of ensuring that you have a happy journey. Create a packing list to ensure that you bring everything that is needed and talk to your travel agent about possible passport and visa requirements.

Consider a Short Break Cruise

Before departing on a 103 day cruise around the world, consider taking a short break cruise to get a taste of life on board. Short break cruises can last from anywhere between one and seven nights and provide a great way to get used to the idea of sailing the seas.

Research your Ports

If you plan on disembarking at any ports along your journey, be sure to do some research in regards to any language barriers, sightseeing tours and shore excursions. A little preparation goes a long way and will assist you in getting the most from your cruise experience.

Stay Hydrated

In the weeks leading up to your cruise holiday, along with while you are on board, make sure you stay hydrated. Not only can dehydration lead to illness and fatigue, but it may also increase your chances of becoming seasick.

Discover your Cruise Line

With so many cruising options available, it can be difficult to know where to begin. Do your own research online and discover the benefits of each different cruise line with your reputable travel agent.

Early Bird Savings

When booking your cruise for the first time, it is easy to become excited in the early stages of preparation and, when it comes to cruise holidays, this is most certainly not a bad thing. Various cruise lines and travel agents offer great discounts for early bird bookings, so make the most of this opportunity.

Prepare for Seasickness

While you’ll hope that you won’t get seasick on board, it is an inevitable fact that many first time cruisers experience some degree of seasickness. Reading up on home remedies, such as drinking herbal tea or eating a green apple may be the difference between a holiday you’ll never forget and one you’d rather not remember.

Inclusions

When booking your cruise, be sure to do your research regarding what is included in your overall price. Most cruise lines offer all-inclusive meals and on-board entertainment, while some shows and theater productions may not be included.

Last Minute Deals

If you’ve left things to the last moment and have decided to take a spontaneous cruise holiday for the first time, talk to your travel agent about phenomenal last minute deals.

Relax & Enjoy

When all is said and done, you are on holidays and so it’s time to sit, back, relax and enjoy your time on the sea.

If you are unsure of any of the details relating to your cruise, be sure to conduct thorough research, as you would with any holiday adventure. Visiting a cruise specialist such as http://www.cruiseabout.com.au will provide great insight into the various benefits of differing cruise lines, along with tips on how to get the most from your cruising experience.

Spending their Holiday in the Philippines

I’m so glad when my mom told me that she and her boyfriend Markus will spend their holiday here in the Philippines next year. Woohoo! My family and I are so excited to see them both. Our family travel to Switzerland will be postponed once again since they will be the one who will visit us here. They are planning to spend their holiday on March 1 to 31, 2013.

My mom’s plan is to visit our hometown province in Bukidnon to see and witness the Kaamulan Festival. This is also the first time that her boyfriend Markus will visit the Philippines. We will let him see the different tourist spots and nice scenery here in our city and other places as well. I’m pretty sure he will enjoy the beautiful places, the people and the food that our country has to offer. It’s more fun in the Philippines, right? :)

On Holiday

My mom is still enjoying her two weeks holiday. Her holidays started last June 1 and it will end on June 18. After that, she will be back on her work at the Zurich airport so while she’s still on holiday mode, she really reminisce the day and time to relax and pamper herself. Aside from having some time to relax, my mom and her boyfriend loves to travel a lot. They both love to tour around in many places in Switzerland and Germany. They love taking pictures of nice view and scenery of different places that they are visiting with.

I am so thankful to them because of the wonderful photos that they captured, it gives me an idea what I should blog about. Since I am just a virtual traveler this time, their travel photos is a big help so I could share with you my dear readers the different attractions and travel destinations in Europe. :)
